YouTube, Netflix, and HBO Max are all platforms that are focused on streaming video content. According to Statista, YouTube has over 2.6 billion users worldwide that use the platform once a month. What this means is that video content is a very desirable medium for many people around the world. With 80% of the internet bandwidth going toward the streaming of video, it makes sense to innovate to improve the efficiency of this medium. One web3 project that is working on this is Glass.
Glass is on a mission to reform internet video from the infrastructure to the experience of living as a creator. At a high level, video infrastructure is very expensive, creating a high barrier of entry for creatives who want to have total ownership of their ecosystems. The barriers include things such as file storage, content delivery networks, and transcoding. Additionally, many of today’s major streaming platforms do not have creator monetization baked into their infrastructure or user experience. Built on Ethereum and Solana, Glass is aiming to solve these issues by reducing costs for developers and creators, while also creating a better medium for the creator economy.
